Well, January is in full swing. In fact, it's almost February! And as much as I like to pretend that the weather doesn't affect my mood - I'm realizing this year that it most certainly does. The past few weeks I've been stricken with something like the January Blues. For one thing, I've been in more physical pain than usual (headaches, infections, stomach issues, etc), and these pains which usually would just be an annoyance have been ... slightly more than just annoying. They've been kind of getting me down. Now couple that with grey weather (my nemesis! I'll take -30 and sunny over +5 and cloudy any day) and a crazy school schedule that has limited my social life, and I can definitely say I'm not feeling my best. Now, disclaimer - I have experienced depression before and what I'm feeling now doesn't even come close to that. It's more just a general feeling of being lazy, uninspired, and bored/boring. I know there are things I could do to help myself (spend more time outside, say 'yes' to more social events, organize my time more effectively), I just don't feel strong or inspired enough to do these things.
For a few weeks now, a phrase has been stuck on my mind. I think it's something my grandma told me once, because I associate it with her. The phrase is "It is all a blessing".
These words have been repeating themselves over and over in my head lately, pressing me to get them out in some way. So today, while I had 100 other things I should be doing, I sat down on the floor and made this little picture instead.
It felt good to get those words down on paper. Something about them just speaks to me through my January fog. Something about appreciating the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We are so blessed to be on this earth for the time we are. I wish I was feeling more eloquent tonight and could expand on that some more, but for now, that's all I'll say. I hope any of you who are suffering from the January Blues can take heart knowing you are not alone!
xoxo
