Upcycle - Dress Into Skirt and Crop Top
A few months ago I found this gorgeous dress at Salvation Army. I loved the fabric and the fit, but it was a tad "frumpy" and it had long sleeves. Sadly I forgot to take a photo before I cut it up (DANGIT KATHERINE!), so I can't show you what it looked like when I found it. Anyway, I wanted to wear it to a music festival the next day so I did a really quick cut and sew job, which did the trick but was certainly not my best work! After it got throughly caked in dirt, sweat, and glitter at the festy, I washed it and the tie straps I had made got all frayed and tangled due to my poor sewing job. At this point, it looked something like this:

Not terrible, but not really wearable anymore due to the straps. So I ALMOST gave up on it and re-donated it (poor dress :( ) but I decided to cut the whole top off and make s skirt instead. I just used a ribbon drawstring for the waist and it turned out wonderfully! I was so pleased with the skirt that I dug the top part out of the trash, replaced the straps with some new fabric, and VOILA, a cute little two piece! Behold:

So I guess the moral of the story here is 'if at first you don't succeed, try try again'? Or perhaps, 'don't rush and do such a crap sewing job in the first place'? Either one works ;)
Until next time!
